Avatars

As you can see I've just modified the image shown on the right. This is my Avatar. I've created it using Voki, a simple and funny way to change our appearance on the web. I thought it might be useful for the class as our students may create their own avatar and record their voices too!!! (or use the ones from the library, as I've done). Then they are ready to work with their new images!!!

Como veis, acabo de modificar la imagen de la derecha. Este es mi Avatar. Lo he creado usando "Voki", una forma fácil y divertida de cambiar nuestra apariencia en la web. Creo que puede ser útil en la clase ya que nuestros alumnos pueden crear sus propios avatares y también ¡grabar sus voces! (o usar las de la biblioteca, como he hecho yo). ¡Entonces estarán listos para trabajar con sus nuevas imágenes!

Planning Writing

One of the tasks we usually set at the beginning of the course is making our students write about their holidays. Eventhough they've got plenty of things to tell, they often say "teacher, I don't know what to write; nothing comes to my mind". So it could be interesting to show them how to plan their writing through this BBC video-tutorial. See if it works!

Teachers also attend lessons

I totally agree with the saying "you never stop learning". 

Teachers should also model it and some of us do it constantly. Here I want to show you a picture of the group of Secondary English teachers from different parts of Aragon who attended an inmersion course last May in Valentuñana Monastery (Sos del Rey Católico). It was organized by CPR Sabiñánigo and lasted 2 weekends where we had a really good experience!!! The teachers were incredible and were always ready to start a great conversation on many different matters.

From here I just wanted to strongly recommend it to all the teachers who can take part in it this course (if the budget allows!!!)

Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con el dicho "uno nunca deja de aprender". 

Los profesores debemos dar ejemplo y  algunos lo hacemos constantemente. Aquí os pongo una foto del grupo de profesores de inglés de Secundaria de diferentes lugares de Aragón que participamos en un curso de inmersión el pasado Mayo en el Monasterio de Valentuñana (Sos del Rey Católico). Lo organizó el CPR de Sabiñánigo y duró 2 fines de semana, en los cuales tuvimnos una experiencia genial. Los profesores eran increíbles y siempre estaban dispuestos a conversar sobre cualquier tema.

Desde aquí quiero animar a realizar el curso a todos los profesores que puedan participar (aunque este año dependerá del presupuesto, ¡claro!)

If you also find it hard to mark qualitatively... here's a tool to make things easier. It's called RUBISTAR and it allows you to set the parameters you want to evaluate or just take them from the ones already designed.

I want to share this video I got on my e-mail to show you what "English humour" means.
It's a sketch shown every single New Year's Eve since 1963 on German TV. It's called "Dinner for One" or "The 90th Birthday".

Saying Bye!!!!

I couldn't find another way I liked to say bye to all my students. This WORDLE application is great!!!

I hope you all enjoy at least half of the words in the picture and keep in touch with me through this blog as next course I won't be with you as I promised. I'll be quite close but doing another type of work.

No encontraba ninguna otra manera que me gustara de despedirme de mis alumnos y esta aplicación WORDLE es ¡genial!

The Big Challenge in Calanda

The Big Challenge is a national contest where our students have to show how much English they know. Ours did it on the 6th of May and the results were quite good.

I'd like to congratulate all of them for their interest and effort and, especially:

Eva LLorca (1st ESO; 29th in Aragon), Laura Medina (2nd ESO; 7th in Aragon and 77th in Spain), Ana Conesa (2nd ESO; 8th in Aragon and 86th in Spain) and Alicia Conesa (4th ESO and 4th in Aragon).

We'll try to beat it next year!!!

The Big Challenge es un concurso nacional en el que los alumnos deben demostrar cuánto inglés saben. Los nuestros lo demostraron el pasado 6 de Mayo y los resultados fueron bastante buenos.

Quiero daros la enhorabuena a todos por vuestro interés y esfuerzo y, en especial a:

Although the course is almost done, I think it could be useful to set this task at this time of the year. Click on the link and watch the video. You'll hear some people talking about students' common errors. Try first to understand without reading the text and then, in case you need it, you may read it as well. Once you've heard it, answer the questions on the right and write them down. We'll correct them in class on Thursday!

Knowing me, Knowing you

When the course starts, we usually ask our students to introduce themselves so... I should model as well.

Briefly speaking, I'm an English teacher working in a small high school in the province of Teruel (yes, it really exists). We have just had our interactive blackboards installed and that was the spark I needed to begin this project I had had in mind for quite a long time. I also have to admit that I'm not usually very good at keeping updated so, this will mean a personal challenge in different ways.

I think that's enough for the moment. Just before finishing I invite you all to set your working minds on as the trip starts in 3...2...1...

Cuando empieza el curso solemos pedirles a nuestros alumnos que se presenten así que... yo debería dar ejemplo. En pocas palabras diré que soy una profesora de inglés que trabaja en un pequeño instituto en la provincia de Teruel (sí, existe). Nos acaban de instalar las pizarras digitales y ha sido la chispa que necesitaba para empezar este proyecto que llevaba en mente desde hacía tiempo. También debo admitir que no soy muy buena a la hora de actualizar, de modo que será un reto personal en varios aspectos.

Creo que de momento ya es suficiente. Antes de terminar os invito a poner en marcha vuestras mentes ya que el viaje empieza en 3...2...1...
